Adrienne Half-Pint

I was told that there was royalty coming into town
She hails from Co. Mayo, yet doesn’t wear a crown
In fact she comes from Ballina, half pint we call her here
Backpacker type with champagne taste, yet sets the bar with cheer
She talks of home and where she works, “The Crescent”, so they call it
But would gladly stay at Nelly’s now, a life she has to forfeit
Infectious laugh and smashing smile, brings joy around the place
She brightens up our every day, puts a smile up on our face
Cause half-pint has the bluest eyes and sparkling teeth to match
With hair in plats to shoulder length, she’d be a lively catch
Yet somehow she has failings, you know that I’m not joking
When I badger her to stop that drink and quit that horrid smoking
It’s sad to say I’ve seen her when she’s not been at her best
A burned out throat and hacking cough, that’s heavy on the chest
But doing what she does the best, a flash behind the bar
It’s going to be so hard for us, when half pint says Ta! Ta!
I’ll say it now, you’re welcome here next time that you return
You’re young enough and full of life, with heaps of time to burn
But when you’re home and thoughts do roam, there’s no respite in “tele”
Remember us, who loved you most, the crew at Durty Nelly’s.
